Atelier Theatre

Theatre is more than an art form, its a way of life. At Atelier, we invite you to become a part of not just an exciting program, but a vibrant family of both students and faculty, ready to help you develop into the person and artist that you strive to be.

Mission Who We Are?

Registered under Societies Act 1860, Atelier Theatre Society is a thirteen year old nationally recognized Delhi-based theatre group. With more than 25 major programs and 12 minor events across India and abroad, Atelier is recognized for its distinguished work in the domain of performing arts. Atelier is instrumental in creating spaces, audiences and programs across different age-groups and regions. Atelier is an expression of "movement" and "space". It fundamentally creates space for all sorts of expressions, primarily in theatre arts. Be it theatre & performing arts or visual arts & cinema, we are very clear on our ideals:
Innovation: This is central to any creative group and we are no exception. The idea is not to freeze the idea but to keep innovating vis-a-vis form and content.

Creativity: Creativity in every aspect is what we aspire for: be it space where we rehearse, work which we take up and the process of delivering the work.

Integrity: Nothing is above our commitment to socio-political and cultural contexts.

VISION What We Wish to Become?

To create a world-class, self-sustaining platform for theatre artists to collaborate, create and perform and creatively respond to the socio-political concerns of the society. Atelier Repertory is envisioned as a major creative force to produce a body of exciting theatre work in Punjabi language.

FUTURE PLANS

- Theatrewallahs :- We are developing an interactive theatre portal.
- Atelier Talkies, a filmmaking unit of Atelier theatre is in the pipeline.
- Black Box: A 100 seater theatre performance space. It will provide substantial impetus to the existing theatre work.

In 2017, the Company decided to move out of the capital and take theatre to various destinations in North India. Atelier Trainings

Atelier School of Dramatic Arts (ASDA) will be the culmination of Atelier Theatre's twelve years long journey (2004-2016) in the domain of theatre and performing arts. Over the years, Atelier as a theatre group has not only produced plays for public through their Repertory wing ARC (Atelier Repertory Company) but also encouraged School children with BACHPAN Children's Theatre Festival (completed five episode) and nourished campus theatre with its tremendously successful festival ACT: Atelier's Campus Theatre (completed 9 seasons). Atelier Theatre, thus, has become a linking ladder from school to college to professional theatre. Of late, Atelier also started producing vernacular theatre ("Project Antigone" & "Kujh Afsaney" in Punjabi) which has received overwhelming critical reviews. In the series of establishing theatre programmes in schools (TIE: Theatre-In-Education); creating 360 degree literary work like "Performing Series" and "Teen Natak", the group has established its training wing: ASDA aka Atelier School of Dramatic Arts.
